A number of aquatic invasive plants threaten Ontario’s waterways. These are non-native species introduced to Ontario from outside their normal range by human activities and threaten the environment, economy, or society. Once established they can out-compete native plants, threaten species at risk, inhibit recreational uses of waterways (like boating, swimming or angling), disrupt storm drainage or hydro-electrical generation, increase flood probability, and in some cases, impact water quality. This 1.5 hr VIRTUAL session will cover the biology, life cycle, habitat, pathways of spread and impacts of several invasive aquatic plants that have negative impacts on Ontario’s environment, economy and society. Participants will learn how to identify the following 10 invasive aquatic plant species:
