Marketing Coordinator

About OIPC

The Ontario Invasive Plant Council is a not-for profit organization that represents the Ontario Chapter of Invasives Canada, a national organization safeguarding the nation’s lands and waters from the threat of invasive species. OIPC aims to raise awareness and promote a coordinated response to the growing threat of invasive plants in Ontario through research, networking, community outreach, and education.

The position

OIPC is seeking a Marketing Coordinator based in London, ON, to assist with website updates and communications. This position will primarily be working on our PlantWise – Grow Me Instead initiative, an effort that promotes the use of native and non-invasive plant alternatives to commonly used invasive plants in horticulture. You will use your skills and passion to develop social media content and mobilize public support for invasive species prevention, management, and awareness.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage and update OIPC’s website and social media presence to increase engagement and public awareness of invasive species.
  • Create new content based on current scientific research and adapt it for diverse audiences.
  • Coordinate communications across multiple platforms, including email, newsletters, social media, and website updates.
  • Develop and deliver outreach events and presentations for audiences ranging from children to adults.
  • Support program promotion for Take Action Programs including PlantWise, Grow Me Instead, Clean Drain Dry, and
  • Leverage digital tools (e.g., Canva, Constant Contact, Meta Business Suite, Zoom, WordPress) to enhance communication and engagement.
  • Provide administrative and organizational support, including scheduling, file management, and responding to information requests.
  • Collaborate with the OIPC and partners to plan and implement communication campaigns and engagement strategies.

Job Requirements

  • Must be between the ages of 15 – 30 at the start of employment.
  • Must have access to a computer with internet connection.
  • Post-secondary education (or equivalent experience) in communications, marketing, and web design.
  • Knowledge of invasive species, biodiversity, and climate change.
  • Strong communication skills. Proven ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, engaging content for general audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Creative, strategic thinker with strong problem-solving, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated team player with experience working collaboratively in small teams.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends for events and outreach as required.

Nice to haves:

  • Access to a personal vehicle for attending in-person events.
  • You’ve worked in a home office setting before.
  • Experience working or volunteering with an environmental nonprofit.
  • Experience with public speaking, virtual presentations, or learning management systems is considered an asset.
  • Experience with social media or graphic design. We’d love to see you porfolio if you have one!

Events Coordinator

The position

OIPC is seeking an Events Coordinator based in York Region, to assist with event planning and community outreach. This position will support the implementation of stewardship and community events and increase community-led stewardship, youth involvement, and awareness of invasive species across York Region. The Event Coordinator will play a key role in planning and delivering public events, webinars, and outreach campaigns that connect residents to local ecosystems and inspire hands-on conservation action.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate and deliver public events such as guided walks, workshops, webinars, and volunteer stewardship days (e.g., invasive species removals, planting events).
  • Assist in community engagement and outreach, including promoting events and recruiting participants through social media, newsletters, and partnerships.
  • Manage logistics such as organizing volunteers, coordinating supplies, and event promotion.
  • Develop event materials and communications, adapting science-based information on biodiversity, invasive species, and climate change for general audiences.
  • Support volunteer coordination, including registration, check-ins, safety briefings, and tracking participation.
  • Maintain event records and reporting, including photos, attendance, and event summaries.
  • Assist with communications tasks including social media posts, website updates, and outreach campaigns promoting stewardship programs like PlayCleanGo, Clean Drain Dry, and PlantWise – Grow Me Instead.
  • Provide administrative support related to scheduling, data organization, and file management.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be between the ages of 15 – 30 at the start of employment.
  • Must have access to a computer with internet connection.
  • Post-secondary education (or equivalent experience) in environmental science, event management, biology, forestry, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of invasive species, biodiversity, and climate change.
  • Experience in event planning, public engagement, or community programming, ideally in an environmental or non-profit setting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and engaging diverse audiences.
  • Experience with social media, digital tools, and event promotion (e.g., Canva, Eventbrite, Constant Contact, Meta Business Suite, Zoom, WordPress).
  • Team-oriented self-starter, capable of working independently and collaboratively in a small, mostly remote team.
  • Safety-oriented with a keen eye for environmental hazards such as heat stress.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support community events.
